Akata Witch - Harry Potter of Nigeria

Updated: Jul 29

Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor is super interesting Fantasy read set in Aba, Nigeria. It is perfect combination of Culture and Magic! I read this book for the last prompt of #readingblackstories Fantasy book written by black author.

I had this book for quite some time in my #tbr I added it because I read somewhere it is known as "Harry Potter of Nigeria". I will be excited as hell even if you give me anything remotely similar to HP and this one with Female lead character is totally my type.

This book follows the story of Sunny, who was born in US but moved back to her parents country Nigeria. As she is Albino, she feels she dont belong anywhere. All she wishes was to play football like her brothers but she couldn't because she is very sensitive to sunlight. She gets bullied very brutally at her school as well.

When she befriends Orlu and Chichi and Sasha her entire life changes upside down. She comes to know about the existence of secret society. Though she has experienced weird things happening around her she never really had any idea (rings any bell???). Eventually she starts to lead double life.

Sunny has once seen the end of the world in a candle flame, which to her horror actually starts to materialize as real threat. Before she can even get hang of her other life with magical abilities, she and her friends Orlu, chichi and Sasha gets thrown in front of a real danger. Will the group survive to tell the tale? Is answered in nail biting climax! I totally enjoyed the book and will rate it ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you wish to buy the book click here. It is Amazon Affiliated link. The price will be same but if you get though this I will get some commission :)
